Come next year, owners of megayachts to 350 feet (107 meters) will have a new place to dock. Golfito Marina Village & Resort in Costa Rica, which has been planned for some time, has started construction.
Golfito Marina Village & Resort is in the city of Golfito. It lies on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, near Panama. Surfers and sportfishing enthusiasts have been attracted to Golfito for years. Just northwest of Golfito is a nearly 34,600-acre national park, touted for bird watching. The developers of Golfito Marina Village & Resort have pledged to honor the natural appeal of the region. “Golfito and the surrounding areas are environmentally sacred places, which we will embrace through our design,” says Noam Schwartz, principal of Hacienda El Dorado, which is creating the marina and property.
Like many marinas and related communities, Golfito Marina Village & Resort is being created in phases. The first phase completes next year, seeing the marina open with 50 slips. They’re already available for purchase. When fully finished, Golfito Marina Village & Resort will have 132 slips. On-site customs and immigration, a yacht club, captain and crew accommodations, and a boatyard will complement the marina. There will further be a restaurant with a nightclub, pools, a gym, an open-air spa, and villas. Each villa will have views of Golfito Bay.
Besides the above-mentioned natural highlights, a few things should make Golfito Marina Village & Resort appealing. Golfito Bay is already used by some of the yacht-transport companies as a pick-up and drop-off point. The beaches in the area are considered some of the best in Costa Rica. And, tourism in Costa Rica has been increasing in recent years, particularly among Americans.
