The performance-oriented Elfje is about to put her primary purpose to the test. Delivered by Royal Huisman last year, Elfje is debuting at the St. Barths Bucket later this week. You can get a good sense of how this pretty plumb-bow boat sails now, however, thanks to video footage commissioned by the shipyard.
Elfje measures 172 feet (52.36 meters) with her 20-foot-long bowsprit. She’s termed a NextGen ketch by Royal Huisman and Hoek Design, for her combination of classic looks with modern-day equipment and the above-mentioned performance emphasis.
We’ll have a photo gallery featuring Elfje in the coming weeks. They’ll include a showcase of her interior, by Redman Whiteley Dixon. The materials used were selected with sustainability in mind. In the meantime, enjoy this:
On a related note, we did a little research into the meaning of the yacht’s name. “Elfje” is a Dutch word that refers to a specific poetic form, containing 11 words spread over five lines. The Elfje form is used to teach children poetry.
