As you may recall from a story we published last year, Moonen Shipyards is building the first model in its Caribbean series, the Martinique. The hull and superstructure for the 120-foot (38.58-meter) motoryacht are currently under construction, for completion next year. So far just a profile or two of the Martinique has been shown. In this gallery, we give you additional views of on-deck and interior spaces, the latter being fashioned by Nauta Design.
The goal of the Martinique—and indeed the full Caribbean series—is to cater to warm-weather cruisers who sometimes enjoy skinny-water destinations. That’s why the Martinique’s draft should be in th seven-foot (2.1-meter) range. Furthermore, the model and the rest of the Caribbean series freshen up the looks of Moonen’s offerings. While its previous popular motoryachts, such as the Moonen 97 and Moonen 99, have appealed to traditionalists, the Dutch builder wanted to attract buyers with more modern tastes in styling, too.
The Martinique features a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, in keeping with Moonen’s typical build materials. The yard has used what it calls an “enhanced length principle” to ensure a good turn of speed. In brief, the principle pertains to building a yacht with a longer length without increasing weight or sacrificing fuel economy. The Martinique should see a 17-knot top end. Moonen has not released the anticipated fuel-burn figures.
The Martinique is one of two models in the Moonen Caribbean series in build. The other contract is for a Matica model. The remaining models are the Mariana, the Montserrat, the Mustique, and the Marquis. They’re all soon to be joined by a sixth model, called the Monito. Here’s your sneak peek:
Moonen intends to unveil full details of the Monito at the Monaco Yacht Show this fall. For now, the yard will just say that the Monito is 499 gross tons. That puts the model beneath the all-important 500-gross-ton threshold for regulatory purposes.
