As much as sailing enthusiasts enjoy how today’s technology allows for swift sail handling, many still cherish old-fashioned charm. In fact, a Dahm International client conveyed that after seeing a design the company started promoting earlier this year. His vision led to the creation of the Dahm Classic, engineered for both cruising and racing as is increasingly common today. She’s further designed with classic styling and a classic layout.
According to Lukas Stratmann, Dahm’s managing partner, the Dahm 120 caught the client’s attention. That concept, from Beiderbeck Designs, held great appeal for him. He liked the 120-footer’s (36.6-meter’s) emphasis on voluminous spaces. She includes, for example, a cinema akin to one found on far larger motoryachts. She also has an ample saloon with all-around views (below), plus the option of a wheelchair-friendly elevator. He wondered, though, whether all of this could come in a traditional-looking style. He also wanted a longer length.
Beiderbeck Designs delivered. The Dahm Classic measures 174 feet (53 meters). Ample, long overhangs (note the aft overhang in the rendering) characterize the styling. Beam is 29’5” (9 meters). There’s a working cockpit forward, near the deck saloon, leaving the full aft section open for guests to sun and relax. A formal separation of guest and crew spaces occurs below decks, too. The sailing superyacht accommodates an owners’ party of 10 and a crew of six.
Furthermore, Dahm International and Beiderbeck Designs believe the design can appeal to other passionate sailors. As Stratmann comments, the Dahm Classic “might as well attract a clientele that, despite their preference for classic sailing yachts, does not want to forego the benefits of the newest innovations.”
Some of those novelties include a cinema room like the one on the 120. The sailing superyacht can come outfitted with a 65-inch screen. The latest-generation sound system naturally can complement it. The wheelchair-friendly elevator of the 120 is feasible as well. Construction-wise, the Dahm Classic is set to be carbon fiber composite.
Of course, interested buyers can request a number of customized decor elements and other features.
Dahm International says the yacht, with a draft of 13’8” (4.2 meters), can be built in less than two years. The shipyard of choice is Nedship Yachts.
