If you’ve chartered to try before you buy, imagine having data instantly about what it would cost to build a yacht like the one you cruised upon. As an owner, would you like to have charter-guest feedback as soon as they disembark? Or, consider tapping detailed information instantly on yachts comparable to yours competing for marketshare. Camper & Nicholsons and Nowboat, a Hong Kong-based company, promise you’ll have this, and more, by the end of the year. They’re collaborating on a data-driven platform to benefit owners, brokers, yacht builders, and more. Further, they pledge it’s the first of its kind in yachting.
Already, the partnership is producing results. Camper & Nicholsons and Nowboat relaunched the former’s website to include new features. For instance, you’ll find a live chat box, for immediate assistance. If you explore the yachts for sale and charter, drone footage and 360-degree tours exist, too. In addition, you’ll find interactive imagery, along with yacht itineraries, some tailored around events, from the Med to Asian waters. Travel journalists contributed to these, to help them stand apart from the more generic approach the company (and many other brokerage and charter firms) took previously. On a related note, Nowboat has been doing this since its inception, with more than 500 contributors covering more than 200 destinations.
Paolo Casani, Camper & Nicholsons’ CEO, says the technology collaboration fulfills repeated customer and industry inquiries. “Requests for real-time data concerning broker history, port data, events in itinerary locations, weather projects, and much, much more has been requested by our guests, clients, and shipyard partners,” he explains. Casani adds that an in-house tech team will continuously incorporate even more data from, say, client trips, as well as newly available yachts for sale and charter.
By the fourth quarter this year, Camper & Nicholsons and Nowboat will analyze even more information. They’re examining fuel usage, marine logs, search history, and social-media presence. Pulling all these into the Camper website will benefit not just the company, but also the industry at large. Indeed, Camper & Nicholsons wants all brokers, owners, captains, and more to use the data, regardless of whether or not they’re existing employees or clients. Brokers, for example, can tap a yacht’s engineering improvements and port history. Equally helpful, they can compare similar-LOA and similar-age yachts side by side. Meanwhile, charter guests can check typical month-to-month itineraries. Finally, builders can project sales and tech trends.
“Camper & Nicholsons holds market intelligence dating back 240 years,” says Giovanni Alessi, the new chief information and technology officer for Camper & Nicholsons. “By collating and sifting that information, we can provide a data-driven solution to almost every industry query.”
