Nordhavn has had a 100-footer (30-meter) in its range for nearly a decade. Even with that staying power, the shipyard believed there was room for improvement. Literally, it turns out. The new Nordhavn 100 yacht Safe Passage, has better volume and longer decks than her predecessors.

Years back, the series resulted from a customer wanting more space to pursue his favorite passion, fishing. Nordhavn adapted the hull of its Nordhavn 96 yacht series by altering the main aft deck. Specifically, it added a fishing cockpit and a California deck, a.k.a. a mezzanine within the cockpit for watching the action. The launch became the Nordhavn 100 yacht Serenity, which saw completion in 2018.

Although her LOA was enough for Nordhavn to consider a new model name, it was only a cockpit extension. It therefore had no effect on the actual hull design, interior configuration, or volume. These, and the arrangement of the upper two decks, remained the same as the 96. By contrast, the redesigned Nordhavn 100 yacht does incorporate modifications for all of these. Specifically for the hull, the shipyard altered a portion of the mold it uses for the 96. The flying-bridge deck and upper deck fully extend aft, too.

Now, the owner of the yacht Safe Passage can entertain friends and family at the aft-deck bar. They can go from cocktails to meals at two tables just a few feet away, with food straight from a grill behind the bar. If there’s cause for special celebration, the owner can select a prized vintage from a nearly full-height wine display in the galley.

The owner of the yacht Safe Passage further has something few, if any, fellow owners of 100-footers do: an upper-deck master suite. Sitting aft, it additionally opens up to a private alfresco space, enough for two big chairs and equally ample ottomans. Few families and guests actually use skylounges, preferring the outdoors and the main saloon—which here looks and feels more ample thanks to the extra volume The relocated master affords a full-beam VIP to take over what’s typically the main-deck owner’s cabin, preserving three more guest cabins below decks.

Despite the longer length, the engineering underpinning the megayacht didn’t need modifications over those of the 96. This therefore means the twin Caterpillar engines permit a reported top speed of 12 knots. The most efficient range should be a considerable 3,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Fuel capacity remains unchanged, too, at 7,000 gallons (26,498 liters).
