Eleven years ago, Azimut Yachts introduced the Magellano series. These production boats changed in looks and layouts, as well as lengths, in the ensuing years. They did not, however, change their emphasis on long-range cruising. (The series name comes from the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.) To keep customers in the fold, the Magellano series is expanding into megayacht models. With one such model already launched, Azimut is working on a bigger boat, the Magellano 30 Metri.
At 97 feet (29.63 meters) in length, the Magellano 30 Metri features exterior lines by Ken Freivokh of Ken Freivokh Design. They remain faithful to classic navetta looks (“shuttle” in English, a trawler-like boat), though Freivokh naturally lends yacht-y appeal, too. In fact, the styling builds upon that of the Magellano 25 Metri, which just hit the water. The new model has a little more polish, as you might expect of a megayacht.
Also similar to the Magellano 25 Metri, the Azimut Magellano 30 Metri has interior design by Vincenzo De Cotiis. Although interior renderings are not yet available, you can expect an open floorplan. This extends from the saloon straight through to the galley on the main deck. Additionally, you can expect a dedicated wheelhouse up one deck, along with four staterooms and a crew area below decks. Overall, if the sneak peek at the Magellano 25 Metri is any indication, it will be sophisticated.
Because the series is all about long range, though, the biggest details relate to performance. Azimut is equipping the series with its Dual Mode hull, for instance. This hull should result in good efficiency whether you’re at slower displacement speeds or higher planning speeds. Top end should be close to 21 knots, in fact, with cruise speed around 16½ knots with twin 1,550-hp MANs.
Additionally, the 6’7” (2.03-meter) draft yacht incorporates Azimut’s new fresh-air system. From Italy-based BCool Engineering, this system exchanges interior air for fresh air every hour. Furthermore, it uses UV light and a filter to turn air pollutants into harmless substances, similar to some household air purifiers. On a related subject, Azimut plans to install the air system on all of its new megayacht models.
