Multihull enthusiasts looking for something different should note JFA Yachts’ latest Long Island catamaran series. The Long Island 86 Power not only has the advantages of twin hulls, but also has an aluminum hull and composite superstructure, for weigh savings. Furthermore, she’s fitted with solar panels, to lessen genset use.
The Long Island range already includes both sailing and power models. Hull number one of the Long Island 78 Power, for instance, launched last year. The Long Island 85 sailing superyacht series debuted with the well-known WindQuest in 2014. This new 86-footer (26.25-meter) boasts the benefits of a multihull, especially an ample 37-foot (11.35-meter) beam. Naval architecture by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, a multihull specialist, along with 3 Lignes and the shipyard should assure efficiency and comfort. Additionally, the trio have engineered the megayacht cat for either conventional twin 600-hp diesels or hybrid propulsion. The latter allows for quiet transit between anchorages. Additionally, they’re putting solar panels on the flying bridge, to power batteries rather than burn genset fuel.

Although the Long Island 86 Power here is a flybridge design, you can request an enclosed, skylounge design instead. Regardless, the multihull makes plenty of room for relaxation. For example, a hot tub, accessible from a lounge inside, sits on the foredeck. In addition, the above-mentioned 37-foot beam makes the alfresco dining and sunning areas fully aft more comfortable for a crowd. It’s shaded, too, by the flying bridge. As for the flying bridge, the captain can steer the Long Island 86 Power toward your next destination while you and your guests enjoy the sights. You can seek the shaded seating area beneath the hardtop, or stretch out on sunpads aft.
Once you arrive at your anchorage, the crew can switch to battery power, plus launch the tender. It stows on the swim platform. When it’s in the water, the platform becomes an ample watertoy boarding area and overall leisure spot.
Since the Long Island 86 Power is a semi-custom series, Darnet Design will work with clients to personalize interiors. A party of eight can stay aboard, as can four crewmembers.
