Over three decades of yacht design, Nuvolari-Lenard has created projects ranging from production boats to the world’s largest superyachts. The studio now has a series, the Nuvolari Lenard Plus range, spanning various sizes plus varying interior and exterior styles. They additionally span semi-custom and fully custom projects all with Mengi Yay shipyard, with the S1 yacht being just one example.
The idea behind the series is pretty simple, according to Carlo Nuvolari, co-founder of the studio. “The NL range and the S1 model not only epitomize the freedom and luxury that a superyacht offers, but also capture the expertise in all stages of design and construction that the Nuvolari Lenard team has garnered over three decades at the forefront of the industry,” he says.
For delivery in 2024, the S1 yacht is 154 feet (47 meters), similar to the Mengi Yay Virtus, from 2019. The studio notes the shipyard’s family ownership, 60 years of experience, and 200 deliveres to date as being attractive factors. Construction of this particular megayacht is in steel and aluminum, with an emphasis on long-range cruising. Mengi Yay and the design team, including Van Oossanen Naval Architects, anticipate a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Complementing the intention of extended time onboard, Nuvolari-Lenard is lending the S1 yacht an ambience of what it calls relaxed luxury. (The same feeling permeates the full Nuvolari Lenard Plus range, though of course the studio tailors it to owners’ tastes.) For example, the saloon is actually a library-cum-saloon. It has a balcony, too. Ensuring the owners have a special area, the designers are placing the master suite on the bridge deck. Strong volume of 499 gross tons makes all guest areas feel special as well.
Outside, meanwhile, the swim platform serves as the always-in-demand watersports platform. The beach club opens up to this spot, conveniently a welcome area or embarking area for the tender. That tender, by the way, is 23’6” (7.2 meters). Overall, exterior areas cater not just to sunny days, but also much-wanted shade and even cooler climes.
Simultaneously, yet another Nuvolari Lenard Plus range project, the NL50 Plus, is in build at Mengi Yay. Finally, an NL60 Plus and NL 65 Plus are still in the final design stages. More details should be available later this year. All are exclusively for sale through Camper & Nicholsons.

“The essence of these projects is in the details,” Carlo Nuvolari adds, noting Italian flair, fine finishes, and arrangements mindful of design and function. “The opportunity to offer clients all of this in a beautifully curated package is something that fills the entire studio team with excitement and pride.”
