Even with a launch anticipated for this July, Virtus is very much available for a buyer’s input at Mengi Yay. Simultaneously, the build and design teams have incorporated features they believe give the 144-foot (44-meter) megayacht an advantage over similar-size craft.
First, Virtus comes from an international team. While Mengi Yay is in Turkey, the megayacht bears Dutch and Italian design influences. Specifically, Netherlands-based Ginton Naval Architects is responsible for naval architecture, while VYD Studio is handling interior design. Furthermore, Ginton Naval Architects counts 10 projects with Mengi Yay. They include the sloop Extreme, which is just nearing completion. As for Mengi Yay, it traces its roots to a small workshop in the mid-1970s, which in 1985 became the shipyard it is today.
The shipyard also contributed to the naval architecture, specifically the hull form. It reportedly has less drag than similar displacement yachts. That, in combination with 1,450-hp Caterpillar engines, should allow for a 15-knot top end and most efficient cruise of 12 knots.
With a volume of 485 gross tons, Virtus also has a beam of 29’5” (9 meters). This provides you and nine guests with, as you would expect, several interior and exterior areas for relaxation and entertainment. Since alfresco living is so important aboard yachts, Virtus offers a beach club with two opening partitions, and a total of 560 square feet (52 square meters). While you can personalize this area, you can really personalize the foredeck. Mengi Yay can configure the area with, for instance, a cozy seating and sunning spot. It can add a hot tub, too. Or, it can set up a touch-and-go helipad.
Virtus shows off something unusual up top. The sundeck’s hardtop, shading a good section, has a tinted skylight. Therefore, you can dine or enjoy drinks while taking a break from the rays of the sun. When you’re ready to put on additional sunscreen, you can stretch out on loose lounges aft, or indulge in the hot tub, surrounded by sunpads, fully forward.
With full-height windows in the saloon, along with fold-down balconies, Virtus offers more enticing areas on her main deck. You’ll appreciate your master suite here, too. The build and design teams say it’s 15 percent larger than the owners’ suites aboard comparable yachts. Total square footage: 506 square feet (47 square meters).
Virtus is available for €17.9 million (about $20.3 million at press time), jointly represented by Fraser Yachts and On Board Yachting.
