Oceanco Concept Yacht Lassel Reflects Grand Touring Glamor

In revealing its Simply Custom designs last year, Oceanco partnered with more than a dozen different superyacht designers to show the possibilities. Specifically, Simply Custom provides a set engineering platform, upon which the designers and clients can tailor the rest, including the LOA, starting at 262 feet (80 meters). The Simply Custom yacht Lassel is back in the spotlight because the interiors are available to see for the first time. From Oceanteriors, the overall design is a spacious sanctuary from which to embark on grand global journeys.

Appropriately, the concept yacht Lassel gets her name from Richard Lassels. Lassels was a 17^th-century travel writer and priest credited with coining the term Grand Tour. It referred to his multi-year journeys of discovery in Italy, with the definition later evolving to refer to similar voyages throughout Europe for the continent’s wealthy youth.

Tony Castro Yacht Designs kept the related notions of learning, culture, and feeling at ease in any social situation in mind in creating the exterior styling. The lines convey readiness to take on the world’s oceans, for instance, yet also elements of sophistication. They’re far more flowing than they are chiselled, contrary to many explorers. Regardless, the readiness complements the transatlantic—and possibly transpacific—range from the engineering underpinnings. While the studio also added amenities like a certified helipad and an infinity pool, their locations are unexpected. It’s as if the goal is to convey there’s a different way to explore the yachting lifestyle. The helideck is elevated fully aft, an area all to itself. The pool, meanwhile, isn’t steps from the waterline at the transom. Instead, it’s nearly amidships, with three decks seemingly suspended in midair above it.

Oceanteriors picks up a few of the Castro studio’s design cues for the interior of the yacht Lassel. It blends a contemporary take on décor with long-standing luxuries. For example, while the stones and fabrics are for owners to select, sculptures can play a prominent role as well. The same is true of artwork, from the master suite to the lounges. They help create mini-experiences amid each area.

Simultaneously, natural light is as essential to every room as the furnishings. The master suite aboard Lassel has not just wrap-around glass walls, but also a panoramic ceiling. This is especially effective in making the changing constellations as memorable as snorkeling amid colorful coral or hiking amid rainforests and glaciers.

Of course, owners and guests treasure areas as close to the water as possible. To that end, Oceanteriors envisions a large spa quite literally opening up to the seascape thanks to lift-up sides. Sensory showers and a hot tub with massaging waterjets make the spa quite inviting, as does the glass ceiling—the bottom of the infinity pool directly above.
