UPDATE, JUNE 24, 2014: Riva presented the 122 Mythos to clients in Monaco this weekend, as seen above. They toured areas ranging from the combination saloon and dining area to the below-decks accommodations. Though the 122 Mythos won’t be stateside for a while, interested U.S. clients will be pleased to know that there’s a main-deck, full-beam galley with a crew dinette. Two twin crew cabins and the captain’s cabin are forward below decks, too.
Riva has also updated the performance figures. It now says the Mythos 122 tops out at 28½ knots under one-third load and cruises at 26 knots. Furthermore, Riva is touting the megayacht’s Green Plus classification by RINA. One hundred seventy-two years after Riva was founded, the Italian builder has splashed its new flagship. The Riva 122 Mythos was lowered into the water over the weekend.
The Riva 122 Mythos also marks a materials departure for the brand. The megayacht is built entirely of aluminum. That warranted construction to take place at Riva’s sister company, CRN. It’s not the first time Riva and CRN have collaborated. Riva’s founder, Carlo Riva, had CRN build eight yachts in the 1970s. Six were 78 feet (23.5 meters), one was 90 feet (about 27.4 meters), and the remaining one was 100 feet (about 30.5 meters).
While the Riva 122 Mythos outranks the previous flagship, the 92 Duchessa, she’s actually based on a smaller model. Specifically, it’s the 86 Domino. Why? The 92 Duchessa is a Flybridge model, while the 86 Domino is a Coupe model. Interesting enough, the 86 Domino and 122 Mythos both have a flybridge-like area, though not atop the full superstructure. Naval architecture and styling for the new flagship is by Officina Italiana Design. It’s the same firm responsible for all Rivas currently offered. Further contributing are the Ferretti Group’s own Advanced Yacht Technology & Design and CRN’s in-house team.
The owner of this first Riva 122 Mythos, from Brazil, worked with the CRN design team on a three-stateroom layout. It’s an unusually small number of cabins for the LOA, but one of a few configurations available. The Riva 122 Mythos is additionally offered in four- and five-stateroom versions.
Sea trials are expected to confirm a 25-knot cruise and 27½-knot top end. The 122 Mythos is powered by twin MTU 12V 4000 M93L diesels. Hand over is in May.
