Two and a half years after taking over a yard outside of Rome, Tankoa Yachts has fully integrated it into its hull-construction process. Tankoa Yachts’ Civitavecchia site is also producing four hulls per year, as planned.
With primary operations in Genoa, Tankoa took over the site in 2023. The port of Civitavecchia was one of several regions it considered for needed expansion. Tankoa’s management team believed the site would suit hull and superstructure construction, further metalwork, plus hull and superstructure joining. “Tasks that have been outsourced until now can be brought in-house, allowing us to have direct control over the quality of the work,” Guido Orsi, Tankoa’s marketing manager, explained at the time. “In Civitavecchia, we will begin operations almost immediately on one-third of the available space.”

Specifically, Tankoa Yachts’ Civitavecchia site spreads out over upwards of 365,973 square feet (34,000 square meters). Besides attending to hull building, the craftspeople install piping and other systems. They fabricate and install structural bulkheads, too. Overall, about 300 people—both direct employees and subcontractors—contribute to all of this. The builder is striving to ensure an ongoing pipeline of talent, especially as direct employees, through partnerships with regional trade schools and training institutions. It does the same in Genoa.
The first hulls to depart Tankoa Yachts’ Civitavecchia site for Genoa were in July 2025. So far this year, two hulls have left, for 164- and 180-footers (50- and 55-meters). Two further hulls should leave later this spring and during the early summer. All head to Genoa the same way, via a barge. Once there, full final outfitting, launch, sea trials, and delivery take place.

When the yard’s management team announced the acquisition in 2023, it anticipated four projects per year would be possible. The size range for the hulls matches the initial anticipation as well. Presently, the Civitavecchia craftspeople are addressing megayachts from 164 to 236 feet (50 to 72 meters), with the steel cutting for the latter beginning soon. In fact, seven projects, a mix of semi-custom and fully custom, spanning those LOAs are in different stages of construction.
Eventually, Tankoa Yachts, which delivers three to four superyachts annually, intends to have the Civitavecchia yard take on even more work. Some of the tasks include more of the outfitting needs, for example. Furthermore, launches and sea trials coordination are in the plans. A timeline hasn’
