Following years of expectation interrupted by the global economic crisis, among other things, Anguilla is set to finally get a long-planned megayacht marina, adjacent to the Altamer Resort.
The Altamer Resort is a boutique destination property, consisting of three beachside villas, a conference center, a former restaurant, and 42 acres of undeveloped land. Time Equities, a New York-based real-estate development firm, acquired both Altamer Resort and the rights to creating a marina in 2014. Back then, Time Equities announced plans to convert the restaurant into a fourth villa as well as obtain a partner to develop the marina.
That partner is Anaconda Holdings, through its operational arm Marine Management and Consulting. The company, established in 2008, is headed by Jeffrey D. Boyd, formerly associated with IGY Marinas. (On a related side note, IGY had an agreement in place several years ago to develop the Altamer Resort megayacht marina. Plans were put on hold during the global economic recession.)
The Altamer Resort megayacht marina is in the final design stages. We therefore do not have details on how many slips will be set aside for megayachts. However, a press release indicates that the marina as a whole will accommodate yachts to 200 feet (61 meters). Furthermore, the Altamer Resort megayacht marina will be an official port of entry.
Guests at the marina can take advantage of the amenities at the resort. These are being expanded to include duty-free shopping and a restaurant promenade. Concierge services will also be available.
“Altamer Marina will rival some of the most renowned facilities in the region and will not only position Anguilla as a choice destination among the luxury yachting community, but will meet the rising yachting, shopping, and dining demands of high-net worth individuals,” says Francis Greenburger, Time Equities’ chairman and CEO. Anguilla’s chief minister, Victor F. Banks, adds, “We welcome this marina development project as an important enhancement of Anguilla’s tourism product. It is just what the doctor ordered.”
