Not even foggy winter weather could dampen the spirits in Bremen, Germany, last week, as Martha Ann made her way into the water at Lürssen. If you’re familiar with recent Lürssen launches, you’ll recognize the similarities she bears to Apoise and Saint Nicholas, as they’re all sisterships. But Martha Ann’s owner clearly wanted her to stand apart, considering she’s graced with a deep-blue hull (which looks more like black, unfortunately, in these photos).
Measuring 230’3″ overall, this megayacht was known by the code name Shark while under construction over the past year or so. Why “Shark”? Credit–or blame–the movie Finding Nemo. Several years ago a gentleman contracted Lurssen to build a few yachts of different LOAs, giving each of them a project name inspired by the flick, which happened to be in theaters at the time. It’ll probably come as no surprise to learn that Apoise was one of the yachts contracted, going by the name project Marlin; Saint Nicholas was the other, a.k.a. project Nemo.
Project names aside, Martha Ann is quite voluminous, with a nearly 42-foot beam. There are four guest staterooms on the lower deck, accessed via a round glass elevator, though extra (or extra-special) guests can stay in the VIP suite on the bridge deck. The owner, of course, gets the best spot: a 426-square-foot suite forward on the main deck. Besides having the requisite sunbathing and alfresco dining/seating areas, the megayacht also has a sports bar/gym on her upper deck, plus an oversize Jacuzzi as well as a pool (with an integrated bar, nice touch). Her naval architecture and styling are by Espen Oeino, and her interior design is by François Zuretti.
Delivery is set for April 2008. The yacht will be available for charter once her owner enjoys a cruise of his own.
