Who says Monaco is the only place yacht owners can go to watch the races from the comfort of their aft deck? We here in the States have St. Petersburg, Florida, which each year hosts the Honda Grand Prix, the only IndyCar series street race in the USA, which goes right past the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina. And if you join the Acura Yacht Club, from April 4 to 6 you’ll see the cars take turn 10 on the track right from your own teak deck.
No, you don’t have to own an Acura to be a member of this group. In fact, it’s open to owners of yachts and megayachts from 50 to more than 100 feet LOA and exists solely as a way of enjoying the Honda Grand Prix. As of this writing, five yachts from 68 to 92 feet LOA have already reserved space, including the 80-foot Freedom and 92-foot Le Club Tarpon.
Membership packages vary depending on LOA, but all include dock space with electricity and water, 24-hour security and water-taxi service (the latter so you can put six tickets to the track and grandstand to good use), IndyCar paddock tours, dinners, concerts, and other events. And what yacht gathering would be complete without a yacht hop? You’ll get access to that, too.
