Ever had a moment where your ears were ringing and you were convinced someone was talking about you? I had the online version of that the other day: I watched my blog traffic spike suddenly. After diligent digging (well, okay, I checked my site-traffic stats), I discovered more than 500 people clicked on the same story: “Say Hello to Suri.”
What was going on, I wondered? A little more research revealed one of the bloggers for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer mentioned and linked to Megayacht News, in the course of explaining to her readers what she discovered about “a bit white yacht” named Suri seen in the city. Seems a few people were under the impression that the megayacht was christened in honor of the daughter of mega-celebrities Tom and Katie Cruise.
To paraphrase the blogger: Sorry, Seattle, but Suri’s not Suri’s. She’s not even Tom’s or Katie’s (or, as the tabloids like to say, TomKat’s). She’s “simply” a support yacht, a.k.a. shadow boat, for the same person who owns the 164-foot, Hakvoort-built JeMaSa (top photo). And, it turns out, her name is actually spelled SuRi. Measuring 172 feet, she was converted from her crab-boat origins (and 166-foot LOA) into her present form (second photo) by Yacht Escort Ships, which finished the job just a few weeks ago.
And what a form she features. From her steam room to her massage room, SuRi may make it hard for guests to tear themselves away and retire to their staterooms. In case they want to get their blood pumping, though, there’s a gym, and there’s also an array of watertoys to choose from. She features everything you’d expect of a custom megayacht, just with a more rugged-looking profile.
If you’re in the Seattle area, you’re unfortunately out of luck, as SuRi departed several days ago, reportedly for New Zealand. But something tells me she’ll show up in other spots around the world soon enough.
