While Richmond Yachts has always built on spec, until this point all of its megayachts have been 138 to 142 feet LOA. The newest launch, which hit the water on Saturday, measures 150 feet (smaller sistership shown above; no launch photos available). Not only does that make Status Quo the yard’s largest, but also the largest yacht ever built in Canada.
Status Quo is a trideck design, with a hull and styling by Ward Setzer and built entirely of fiberglass. There are accommodations for 12 in the owner’s party and eight crew. The interior design and layout is similar to previous launches, with sapele and pomele woods throughout, from the on-deck master to the captain’s stateroom (which the yard says could be a VIP instead) just aft of the wheelhouse. Also similar to her smaller sisters – some of which were also named Status Quo, while others were Richmond Lady – she features a waterfall treatment in the dining room, the latter of which is also open to the saloon.
Sea trials are currently underway, with Status Quo expected to top out at 18 knots, thanks to twin 2,000-hp MTUs. Some finish work is still being completed, too. The yacht is for sale, for $30 million.
