Codecasa has made a name for itself by building somewhat traditionally styled superyachts, meaning ones with the typical mix of alfresco and enclosed spaces. However, it has been known to break with tradition. It’s doing that again with the Codecasa 50s, an open motoryacht.
Open megayachts are more commonly found in smaller size ranges, like 30 to 40 meters (98 to 131 feet), so the 50-meter (164-foot) length of this project is additionally unusual. But Codecasa has determined there’s a market niche it can fill. (And why not? Recall that Palmer Johnson has delivered several large open motoryachts in recent years.)
For the 50s, Codecasa is working with designer Andrea Bacigalupo, who has previously collaborated with the yard as well as ones like Leopard, ISA, and CNL (Cantieri Navale Lavagna). While the 50s bears some similarities to her smaller sisters, those being the 35s, 41s, and 45s, she’s bolder, more aggressive. She also offers three different propulsion systems, to give clients equally bold performance. In one, triple 2,600-hp MTUs are coupled to two KaMeWa waterjets and a booster KaMeWa waterjet to achieve a reported 28-knot top end. A second option employs twin 3,500-hp MTUs with traditional propellers for an anticipated 25-knot top end. Finally, triple 3,500-hp MTUs paired with KaMeWa waterjets should permit a 32-knot top speed.
Regardless of power setup, the Codecasa 50s offers all owners the same layout. The owner’s suite lies forward of the saloon. There’s a gym one deck below, accompanied by the guest staterooms. In an interesting twist on the tender garage, Codecasa situates it between the engine room and crew accommodations, not fully aft. Side hatches allow the toys to launch. Finally, because the yacht has a third deck, the wheelhouse is up there, with plentiful sunbathing space occupying the rest of the deck and a seating/dining nook just forward.
