While they say that the third time’s the charm, two well-respected names in the superyacht business are banking on the second time bringing success.
Bannenberg & Rowell and CMN have teamed up for this 44-meter (144-foot) project, named Scorpio. She’s only a bit larger than their first collaboration, Acajou, which measures 43.3 meters (142 feet).
Just as Acajou turned heads for her dramatic lines, so, too, should Scorpio. (While not yet under contract, an owner could expect to take delivery within 26 months from order.) Much like the small but mighty animal that she’s named after, Scorpio looks powerful. The design team bestowed dramatic angles nearly everywhere your eye can see, both in the profile and aerial images included here. A particularly creative touch: Bannenberg & Rowell even designed the yacht’s mast to mimic the tail of a scorpion.
Of course, there’s more to Scorpio than innovative design elements. Note the nearly covered foredeck, so arranged to keep deck gear and the crew’s activities essentially unseen. The dark structure aligned with the scorpion-tail mast is actually the davit for PWCs and the rescue tender.
After the owner and guests are done sunning or enjoying the pool, they can head inside to enjoy open-plan living spaces. Light coming in from the unusually shaped and sized windows heighten the sense of volume. This is particularly true in the main saloon and dining area, where the floor-to-ceiling windows are further fitted with sliding doors, leading out to the low-bulkhead side-deck area. As you’d expect, the master suite also benefits from large windows.
CMN was instrumental in making the interior as open and airy as possible by studying alternate placements for engine-air intakes.
