JFA Yachts, the France-based yacht builder behind the famed expedition yachts Axantha and Bystander, has its third catamaran megayacht under construction. She’s part of a new semi-custom series called the Long Island 85.
The Long Island 85 will measure just over 86 feet (26.25 meters). Naval architecture and interior design are both from Marc Lombard. The French design studio specializes in racing and cruising mono- and multi-hull yachts and megayachts from 16 to 165 feet (4.88 to 50 meters).
The first Long Island 85 megayacht, for an American owner, will have two crew cabins in the port-side hull, accompanied by one guest stateroom. A second guest stateroom will be in the starboard-side hull, along with an office and the owner’s bath. The rest of the owner’s suite, with wood soles, will lie on the main deck, with a welcome feature: access to alfresco space forward. There, as the illustration below shows, a dining space, sunning space, and the ubiquitous trampoline await.
Future Long Island 85 owners will have a choice of interior layout, though they’d be wise to preserve the full-beam saloon. It boasts views in every direction, plus a bar. It’s also open to the helm, keeping guests in touch with the action.
On the performance end, 3,875 square feet (360 square meters) of sail area and twin 380-hp engines will come into play. The fiberglass superstructure, mated to an aluminum hull, will keep weight down.
