The nearly 50-year-old Pier Sixty-Six Marina in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is wrapping up a renovation that has added berths and a number of improvements.
Pier Sixty-Six Marina, located at the Hyatt hotel near Port Everglades, has been a favored tie-up spot for megayachts for many years. It’s also a vital part of the annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The combination convinced LX Luxury Marinas, which manages the property, to invest a reported $20 million into the first large-scale renovation since the marina first opened.
Among the notable changes is the ability to accommodate 16, versus six, megayachts to 150 feet (about 45.7 meters) in slips. Pier Sixty-Six Marina can actually handle yachts to 300 feet (91.4 meters) side-to. It gained new bulkheads and floating docks, too. In addition, Pier Sixty-Six Marina has an all-new electrical infrastructure and dock pedestals. This in turn means new and more powerful shore-power hook-ups. Visiting megayachts can expect 480-volt, 400- to 600-amp, three-phase power. Furthermore, the dockmaster’s office was renovated, and a new captain and crew lounge was added, overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.
With the first of two phases already done, Pier Sixty-Six Marina is set to be fully finished prior to the boat show next month. It will still have the amenities it has offered all along. These include 24-hour security, concierge services, on-site maintenance, pump-outs, and high-speed fueling. Pier Sixty-Six Marina also continues to provide free shuttle service to the local beaches, wifi, crew showers and laundry, plus niceties like tennis courts, pools, and a handful of restaurants, as well as room service directly to your yacht.
