Measuring 40’6” (12.3 meters) and with a 9’5” (2.9-meter) beam, the P40 from Spirit Yachts may seem large for a superyacht tender. But she has the looks that owners like for arriving in style and cruising around coves.
Equally suitable as a boat of her own right, the Spirit P40 stems from the experience the British yacht builder has gleaned in 20-plus years of business. Sean McMillan, chief designer and CEO, says that sailing yachts will always be Spirit Yachts’ priority, but “the growing interest in our power boat designs presents an exciting new avenue for Spirit.”
The Spirit P40 is available in a few configurations. For use as a superyacht tender, you’d be wise to request the cockpit dining area. Otherwise it goes inside the cabin, near the galley. You and your captain may also like a semi-enclosed wheelhouse, vs. a fully enclosed one. After a few hours of coastal exploring, or simply for seeking shade, you can take a nap (in air conditioning, of course) on the berths. Additional amenities for the Spirit P40: a bimini, a shower on the swim platform, and a swim ladder deploying from the same platform.
“Spirit” is an apt name for the Spirit P40, given her reported speed. The builder says she cruises at 29 knots and tops out at 36 knots. Twin 260-hp Yanmar inboards provide power.
You can arrange a test drive of the Spirit P40 at the Cannes Yachting Festival or step aboard during the Monaco Yacht Show. Spirit Yachts will have information on its sailing superyachts and power megayachts as well.
