Celebrating her delivery last month, the first American-owned Delta 88 Carbon Sport Yacht celebrates something else in November. She debuts at the annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS).
Delta Carbon Yachts, the American sales and service arm for Delta Powerboats, introduced the owner, also American. Delta Powerboats is based in Sweden, established in 2003 and mostly offering smaller models. The Delta 88 Carbon Sport Yacht is its first megayacht. The one that’s now stateside is hull number three in the series, too. The series debuted in 2013.
“Carbon” in Delta 88 Carbon Sport Yacht signifies light-weight carbon fiber construction. That, plus the hull design by Lars Modin and Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, means better fuel consumption. Delta Carbon Yachts says the savings can be as high as 40 percent. The megayacht bears triple IPS 1200s, 900 hp apiece. Top speed is reported between 36 and 38½ knots, depending on load. Draft is a Bahamas-friendly 5’6” (1.72 meters).
The target buyers for the Delta 88 Carbon Sport Yacht are not unlike other Americans who gravitate to this size range. Some like to take the wheel themselves. Others like needing just a small crew. Either way, crew’s quarters for three are aboard, fully aft. You also get a VIP and two twins, plus a full-beam master. (Beam is 21’7”, or 6.22 meters.)
Look for another Delta 88 Carbon Sport Yacht to come stateside next summer.
