To strengthen its presence on American soil, Cantieri di Pisa now has a dedicated sales office. Naturally, it’s called Cantieri di Pisa USA.
Opened in Coconut Grove, Florida, Cantieri di Pisa USA is headed by Patrick Mercurio (left at top, with Roberto Zambrini, head of the yard and its sister company, Mondomarine).
Mercurio is already familiar with Cantieri di Pisa’s yachts. He’s collaborated with the Italian yard for a number of years. Overall, he has spent his life being in and around boats and yachts. Coming from a family with three generations of boaters, Mercurio is also a longtime broker. He has split time between the United States and the South of France as a result.
Cantieri di Pisa USA will actively promote the yard, which has a long history. It opened its doors in 1945 in the Tuscany region. Small powerboats were the focus at first. To expand, the builder established a new facility in 1956, which is still there today. Particularly in the 1970s, Cantieri di Pisa produced a large number of yachts, gradually moving up into the megayacht realm in the 1980s and 1990s. It set its sights on the American market in the 1990s, selling a number of megayachts here. The recent global economic recession, though, affected the builder, and it ceased operations. However, Mondomarine acquired Cantieri di Pisa in 2015.
In recent weeks, the yard signed two new-construction projects, too. One is the Akhir 42S (above), a 138-foot (42-meter) megayacht with exterior and interior design by Luca Dini. Hull number one belongs to a Japanese client. Given that the Akhir series met with success stateside, Cantieri di Pisa USA should be able to generate more interest.
Another new construction project is hull number one of the Kitalpha 22 series. The yacht earned the nickname of a gentleman’s yacht, due to the classic styling. Fitting, since she represents an updated version of a classic Cantieri di Pisa offering. You can see a scale model of the Kitalpha 22, in fact, behind Mercurio and Zambrini.
