The Schaefer Yachts name is likely unfamiliar to most American yacht buyers. That may soon change. The Brazilian builder of sport yachts is officially entering the North American market.
With Nautical Ventures as its first dealer here, Schaefer Yachts believes it can expand its U.S. customer base in particular. The builder, celebrating its 25th anniversary, has a size range of models from 32 to 82 feet (9.78 to 24.9 meters). For example, it has delivered 1,500 units of its smallest model, the Schaefer 303. Just this past fall, it delivered a 560 to Florida. Its only megayacht model, the Schaefer 830 (above), has seen six deliveries so far, too.
Schaefer Yachts handles most boatbuilding-related tasks in house. In fact, Márcio Schaefer, the president, is also the chief designer. Furthermore, Schaefer Yachts builds all of its own molds (all yachts are constructed of fiberglass). It additionally has its own woodworking department.
Buyers of the Schaefer 830 can request a number of different woods and finishes for their yachts. The overall semi-custom nature should appeal to customers. Measuring 81’7” (24.9 meters), the Schaefer 830 allows for three or four staterooms, plus a crew cabin. There’s also a tender garage capable of stowing a PWC and a RIB. The yacht, with a 19’7” (6-meter) beam, frees up space for relaxation and stowage due to using Volvo Penta’s IPS system. Three 1,200-hp engines comprise the system. She also has a shallow-water-friendly 3’3” (1.02-meter) draft.
Schaefer Yachts may eventually build some of its yachts for American customers on American soil. For now, Nautical Ventures can show potential customers a few models at the upcoming Yachts Miami Beach show. While the Schaefer 830 isn’t one of them, information will be on hand.
