Mention Fifth Avenue, and some people will think of New York City’s famed street. But among the megayacht set, at least where West Coast cruising is concerned, it’s a nine-month-old marina that’s making a name for itself.
Since opening in January, Fifth Avenue Landing has attracted some of the more notable motor- and sailing yachts around. Attessa, Archimedes, Bossy Boots, Piano Bar, Lady Catherine, and, just last month, Rosehearty among the visitors to date. Twelve yachts to 300 feet LOA can be accommodated, and deep drafts are no problem, since the water depth is about 20 feet.
Twenty-four hour security, complimentary concierge services, and free WiFi are provided for all yacht owners, captains, and crew. Everyone also receives complimentary gym and pool usage at the neighboring Hilton Bayfront Hotel.
Fifth Avenue Landing’s proximity to downtown San Diego is also among its other strong points. Next door to the convention center and a public park, it’s also walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarter, famed for dining and nightlife, and Petco Park, where the San Diego Padres play. Mass transit makes it easy to head to the San Diego Zoo, Qualcomm Chargers stadium for football, and other attractions, plus the airport.
Yet another strong point: The service and refit specialists Knight & Carver and Marine Group Boat Works are each nearby. In fact, Rosehearty departed Fifth Avenue Landing earlier this month and headed directly to Marine Group Boat Works for paint and structural work.
