With an unusually high volume of 244 gross tons, Galego is not an ordinary cruiser. The third launch in Cantiere delle Marche’s Darwin Class 102 series, she’s further distinct for having more tailored touches than her predecessors.
Styling-wise, Galego closely resembles Acala and Babbo, the two prior series deliveries. The series styling and naval architecture come from Hydro Tec. The owners did want some differences, though. First, Galego has a sundeck. The owners and guests will spend some good time up there, considering it includes a combination bar and grill, plus dining space. In addition, the owners requested a foredeck pool and sunpads. But that’s not all. This forward space can convert to an alfresco gym.
Inside, the owners made some even more important changes. They requested higher headroom of just over seven feet (2.18 meters), since they’re tall. This, in turn, impacted port placement to each side.
As an explorer yacht, Galego will pursue plenty of adventures. Her transom contains a dive center, plus the primary tender and watertoys. Her twin Caterpillar engines should permit a 4,700-nautical-mile range at 9½ knots. Furthermore, in Cantiere delle Marche tradition, she has some robust systems more commonly found on workboats. Additional robust—and customary—technical features include copper nickel piping.
Intended for eight in the owners’ party, Galego will treat them to an interior highlighted by walnut paneling, leather, and even Hermes wallpaper in some spaces. Even the captain and crew get nice treatment, with an all-leather-clad helm. For practical reasons, though, other work areas aren’t fancy. The galley, for example, has stainless steel appliances and white countertops. The owners worked with Pierluigi Floris for give Galego her particular style.
At the launch last weekend, Ennio Cecchini, managing director of Cantiere delle Marche, commented on collaborating with the owners. “This new explorer yacht touches me personally in particular,” he said. “It has been a great project in every respect, and the tuning that has been made with the owners has made it even better.”
