Enrico Lumini, head designer for Hot Lab, has only kind words to say about collaborating with the owners of Sunrise. Handed over late last year by Yildiz Shipyard, the 141-foot (43-meter), steel-hulled superyacht has spent her first summer in the Med. “Sunrise is a beautiful yacht for a wonderful family,” Lumini shares.
Antonio Romano, Hot Lab’s co-founder, says that the studio landed the job for the family-oriented motoryacht very quickly. “I had the pleasure to meet the passionate owner and his wife in Istanbul in the summer of 2017, and in less than an hour we agreed on all the design and contract principles,” Romano explains. That design called for subdued classicism, mixed with contemporary flair, to welcome three generations of the family.
It helps that the husband began cruising decades ago, first aboard traditional Turkish gulets. “Yachting has been my hobby for 30 years,” he says. Sunrise is his fourth custom yacht, too, so clearly he knew what he wanted. Furthermore, “I’m accustomed to working with Italian designers and found the young, friendly, client-oriented team very easy to work with.”
Bearing styling by Ginton Naval Architects, Sunrise makes good use of walnut, Macassar ebony, and honey-toned afzelia (an African wood) in checkerboard patterns. Hot Lab used woven leather, chrome, and other materials, too, as accents. All of this appears from the four guest staterooms below decks to the unusually situated master suite aft on the upper deck. Furthermore, Sunrise shows off Hot Lab-designed furnishings as well as pieces by Glyn Peter Machin, Minotti, and other top names.
Since the megayacht is strictly private, she has what may seem like some unusual features. These include an elevator (atypical for her LOA), along with a captain’s cabin forward on the main deck. Additionally, all toys stow out in the open on the foredeck, although this frees room for a beach club.
Regardless, it all suits the way the family likes to live. “Hot Lab’s ability to render his family’s vision—and then ensure the execution down to every last detail with an unwavering positive attitude—was exemplary,” asserts Burak Akgül, CEO of Yildiz Shipyard. “The end result is a happy owner!”
