Not only do I blog here each day, but I’m also the unofficial creative director and copywriter for a freelance pastry chef, which has helped me become quite the little foodie. (Actually, it came naturally, too: My mother freely tells stories about how she and my grandmother used to sit and watch my cheeks as I ate when I was a baby.) So when I discovered the blog The Adventures of a Wayward Chef this week, I quickly bookmarked it as a favorite. You should, too.
Cristina Topham is the author, a chef with a serious case of self-described wanderlust. A recent trip to the Caribbean convinced her that cooking aboard yachts was her calling. So far she’s been part of the crew aboard a 120-foot sailing yacht and is soon going to embark on a world cruise aboard a new 156-foot motoryacht. Her blog posts represent a mix of straight-up information about life aboard megayachts, a behind-the-scenes look at the fun the crew has working and living together, and of course, a smattering of some of her favorite recipes.
Topham also has a great sense of humor–witness the fact that one post this week is titled “Food Porn” and has photos of fish on ice accompanied by the caption “Swim, Harold, swim, the ocean is just ahead!” Dig further back, and you’ll learn how she earned the nickname Cookie and bribes her fellow crewmembers as well as anyone else who needs a bit of coaxing to do what she wants with chewy, gooey baked treats.
Just don’t do what I did: read her posts right before lunch.
