Upwards of 16,146 square feet (1,500 square meters) of interior space. That amount has changed not only in design, but also in configuration, as part of a massive makeover of Kaos. The megayacht, formerly known as Jubilee, has returned to her owners from the Lürssen facilities in Hamburg, Germany.
Lürssen announced the refit of Jubilee in March of last year. The 361-foot (110-meter) megayacht, an Oceanco from 2017, arrived with a detailed list of exterior deck and interior must-have modifications. At the time, the shipyard kept most details confidential, simply a “comprehensive refurbishment” was in order. Furthermore, Lürssen indicated that the scope of the work would keep the megayacht at the yard through May 2020. COVID-19 shutdowns, plus the resulting supply-chain issues and virus-mitigation measures among personnel caused some delays. “It was a complex refit that was challenging at times, but it has been very successful,” says York Ilgner, director of Lürssen Yacht Refit.
While the shipyard is still not disclosing too many details, it does draw attention to alterations to the main- and bridge-deck sections aft. (Compare the new look at top to the image above of Jubilee arriving in 2019.) Furthermore, it was important to ensure those alterations blended with the existing styling of the yacht, from Sam Sorgiovanni Designs.
“What you see from outside already looks significant, but the majority of the work was done on the interior,” explains Thomas Dapp, the project manager. “Overall, we renewed 1,500 square meters of interior spaces,” with Reymond Langton Design and abundant owners’ input. In fact, “the owners were heavily involved in every aspect of the project,” according to Ed Beckett, a naval architect from Burgess’ new-construction team, which served as the owners’ representatives. Thus far, no word on whether the original accommodations for 30 people have reduced or expanded.
Kaos represents the biggest refit so far for Lurssen. On a related subject, the shipyard saw about 150 people simultaneously working on the project during the peak periods.

Nice to see the ex- jubilee again. She still a beauty to see. Her design is special and eye catching.
It was a pleasure to be part of the commissioning team during the building of the ex-jubilee.
May she have save voyage.
