For decades in yacht charter, the emphasis has been on the yacht. In other words, the yacht was essentially the single most important element, with charter brokers having photographic memories of details like decor to the number of staterooms and lounges. Today, things are different. Of course, the yacht is still important. But, increasingly, charter clients want to know what they can do while chartering. So, they want to play on watertoys all day in privacy, or enjoy jumping off the swim platform and feel as if the surrounding sea is their own. Similarly, they want to spend meaningful time together with their loved ones. It’s experience first, yacht second. So, if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to charter a yacht, or even own one, what better way than to see? These four videos are among the best in conveying the essence.
Cloud 9 Charter Yacht
Unfortunately, the settings on this video prevent embedding, so you’ll have to click through to see it. Regardless, thanks to Cloud 9’s central charter agent Burgess, this is fundamentally a “day in the life” experience. It opens with a group of friends enjoying time together, then proceeds to take you through a few different days of their time onboard. They practice yoga on deck, for example, and have a blast with watertoys. You see behind the scenes as the crew prepares gourmet meals, too. Along those same lines, the whole crew ensures one little girl has an extra-special birthday celebration.
Princess 35M
Four years ago, Princess Yachts was a trailblazer with its yachting videos, breaking with the tradition of walking the viewer from room to room to showcase design. In fact, that’s when it shot the video above, for its 35M megayacht (115-footer). It’s one of the first to ever showcase the yachting lifestyle—and, further unusual, it features a real family of owners. More than half a million views to date proves it resonates. You feel as if you are walking behind the crew, running through the foyer from the master suite to the aft deck to go swimming, and more.
Riva 90 Argo
Like the Princess mini film, this Riva video (above) is not a room-by-room tour. Rather, it’s a fun look at what it’s like to be aboard a yacht, mixed with looks at lounges and alfresco areas. After all, it is fun to go cruising and anchor out.
Lana, a Rare 100-Meter+ Charter Yacht
Although they get a lot of headlines, superyachts exceeding 100 meters (328 feet) are still a rarity among the thousands of megayachts on the water. Therefore, this is one of the only videos to show what it’s like to charter a yacht in this size range. Thanks to Lana’s central charter agent Imperial Yachts, you can imagine yourself golfing off the foredeck, swimming in the pool, or enjoying a massage. Although most of the people you see aren’t guests, the video does hint at the white-glove service Lana’s crew provides. Long on luxury, she “clearly marks a new step in the charter industry,” says Julia Stewart, Imperial’s director. “Guests are more and more looking for a five-star, all-inclusive experience that very few superyachts in the world can offer.”
