Algae? Yes, algae. The organisms that all too often rapidly increase to create harmful algal blooms actually have a fascinating connection to an inflatable stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) manufacturer. Cala Boards is harvesting algae and using it in a special EVA foam to create all of the mats on its SUPs.
Cala Boards is an American-based company dating back to 2015. It’s the brainchild of a travel-loving extreme-sports enthusiast from Brazil. Upon moving to Colorado about a decade ago, he fell in love with paddleboarding. Soon after, he decided to turn his passion into his profession.
Cala Boards chose to partner with Bloom for the algae-infused EVA foam. Bloom specializes in harvesting the algae, drying it, and transforming it into a plastics substitute. What’s more, from now through December 3, the company has a Black Friday special. You get 15 percent off all boards and accessories. Free shipping is part of the deal, too.
You can learn more about the types of SUPs that Cala offers in the November edition of the Megayacht News newsletter. Sent on a subscriber-only basis, it includes news not featured here on our daily website. So, for example, you’ll read this month about a solar farm at Front Street Shipyard, and the progress on Project Sparta at Heesen Yachts. Furthermore, you’ll find out where the famed J-Class sailing superyachts are competing next—and which ones are racing.
Sign up below for the newsletter if you don’t already receive it. We’ll make sure you receive the November edition, and each monthly edition thereafter.
