If you’re an adrenaline junkie, here’s a watertoy that should get your heart racing. It’s the Wavekat P70, which can carve up the water at speeds upwards of 35 knots. It can also launch off waves, for an extra dose of thrills.
The manufacturer claims the Wavekat P70 handles just like driving on land. James Econs, managing director at Marine Toys & Tenders, confirms this, saying it’s simple to operate, with no lessons needed. Push the foot throttle, turn the steering wheel, and the Wavekat P70 is good to go.
The excitement comes, of course, in carving 90-degree turns readily at full speed. The Wavekat P70 features a catamaran hull (hence “kat”) powered by an outboard. Since you’re seated down close to the waterline, Marine Toys & Tenders likens the experience to riding in a racecar.
The Wavekat P70 is CE certified as a Class B watercraft. This means it’s permitted for inshore use, with waves less than 2 meters (6’6”) and a Beaufort wind speed less than 6. The video below shows users launching the watercraft into the air in pretty calm conditions. “You can literally throw everything you’ve got at this machine, and it will just ask for more,” Econs comments. “I had no idea ‘driving’ could be this much fun!”
The Wavekat P70 pricing starts at $22,500 via Marine Toys & Tenders. The outboard engine is sold separately. The manufacturer recommends a 70-hp Tohatsu 2-stroke, though a 60-hp Suzuki 4-stroke is also suitable. Marine Toys & Tenders can also deliver the Wavekat P70 with lifting points for your davit, or a custom trailer.
