The rugged-looking CLX96 made her much-anticipated launch at CL Yachts this month. With pandemic-related delays having held up her previously expected launch, she’s on schedule to appear at boat shows in 2022.
CL Yachts calls the 96’8″ (29.5-meter) megayacht an SAV, or Sea Activity Vessel, for her combination of tough looks and creature comforts. In fact, CL Yachts considers the aesthetic “workboat chic.” It’s especially notable in her reverse-angle deckhouse, which of course serves practical purposes as well. Specifically, it reduces glare, heat, and sightlines interference from big waves. The plumb bow, meanwhile, enhances performance as well as interior accommodations.
These styling cues come from Jozeph Forakis, with Alfaro Design handling naval architecture. He says the profile re-imagines “the preconceptions of space, comfort, and conviviality.” Although he’s based in Milan, the designer grew up in a New York loft, which is what inspired some of the airy looks. He adds that it was important for guests “to always be aware that they are on a ‘vessel’ built to transport them through space and time.”
The CLX96, with four staterooms and a beach club, has a few indoor-outdoor areas. In the saloon, for instance, and the sky lounge, opening glass doors let everyone enjoy fresh breezes at anchor. Since an alfresco dining area is just outside of the sky lounge, the two become one significant-size social spot. Additionally, a welcoming Portuguese terrace sits forward of the skylounge. And finaly, the CLX96 has a healthy-size foredeck seating and sunning area.
Sea trials should confirm a cruising speed of 22 knots under Caterpillar C32 power. Maximum speed at half load, meanwhile, should be a swift 27 knots.
