Less than a year since her owners acquired her, the megayacht known as Moonen YN201 slipped out from her construction shed in recent days. It’s the first time certain requests from the owners are visible, too.
The megayacht started on spec at the shipyard, as hull number four in its Martinique series. The clients who bought her considered a few builders before choosing Moonen and this project, which they consider “a beautiful boat with very high build quality, smart design, and layout.” Even with that, of course, they wanted to tailor the yacht to their tastes and way of cruising. Therefore, one of the first changes was creating a longer swim platform—and a hydraulic one, too. In fact, this is why Moonen towed YN201 out of her build shed. The craftspeople can now add the 4’9” (1.5-meter) amenity aft, onto the initially 119-foot (36.3-meter) megayacht.
Yet another change the owners wanted is pretty obvious: color. Moonen says that YN201 is actually its first-ever yacht to have an anthracite-tone hull. This should make her stand apart among the primarily white craft in any harbor she visits.
Although delivery isn’t until early next year, we’re getting a hint at what the yacht may look like inside. The owners brought in Andreas Martin-Löf Arkitekter, a Stockholm-based studio. It has earned a reputation for designing private homes and hotels, primarily in its home country. Naturally, the studio’s designs have a Scandinavian influence—as will the yacht.
Expect the yacht further to have a healthy range of 4,000 nautical miles at a 10-knot speed. Maximum speed for the steel-hulled pocket superyacht should be around 16½ knots as well.
One of the owners has high praise for Moonen so far. “I can’t wait to see the final product,” he confesses.
