Fast flying-bridge yachts prioritize upper-deck space for alfresco areas. AB Yachts is rethinking this norm by reinventing its own sport-fly designs. The first hull of the AB 120 yacht series, which just launched, reveals how it’s doing this.
The owner of this first hull, who has decided to christen her Wraith, benefits from an expandable area right at the waterline. Specifically, the 121-footer (37-meter) has fold-down side “wings,” which together with the swim platform make an open-air beach club. Additionally, due to the layout of the main aft deck, the beach club essentially feels even bigger. A pool sits fully aft there, letting guests feel almost as if it’s floating above the sea. Plus, the sliding doors to the saloon can open fully and disappear, thereby making upwards of 1,076 square feet (100 square meters) of space from the swim platform to the saloon all look and feel connected.
Of course, the beach area doubles for watertoy usage. And this first AB 120 yacht certainly carries a plethora of toys. For instance, she has a 15-foot (4.6-meter) tender, along with two three-seater PWCs. She further has SeaBobs, stand-up paddleboards, electric foiling boards, and inflatables. All the toys stow in a bow garage and an aft float-in garage—the latter yet another different characteristic for a sport-fly yacht.
Since all AB Yachts projects are semi-custom, the owner tailored a few things to his tastes. For example, the sundeck won’t just be for sunning. It will be a nighttime cinema, too. Another special request was a room convertible to a gym. For entertaining guests, meanwhile, the owner also requested a bar, which AB Yachts says is entirely custom designed. A total of 10 people can stay aboard and cruise together once the AB 120 yacht sees delivery. She’s coming to U.S. shores, where she’ll enjoy the sights of the East Coast. She’ll further explore the Caribbean.
Everywhere she goes, this superyacht will be able to enjoy super speeds. The shipyard anticipates a top speed of 45 knots, and a cruising speed of 40 knots. At 40 knots, she should be able to cover about 500 nautical miles as well, therefore making quick work of island hopping. Her draft of just over four feet (1.35 meters) means all sorts of shallows are within reach.
Although photos aren’t yet available, the interior of the yacht features warm woods, leather, glass, and soft-toned lacquers.
