This morning marked a major milestone for the owners of the soon-to-be-delivered yacht Kathryn. It was the first time their 190-footer (58-meter) floated on her own lines.
Going by her hull number, Codecasa hull C127, during construction, the steel and aluminum megayacht started on spec in 2020. Right from the start, the plan was for a performer. Specifically, Codecasa’s technical team envisioned one of the fastest yachts of her size. Simultaneously, though, the team wanted to ensure she’d have excellent long range. Ultimately, Kathryn’s vertical bow and hull design combine to provide the best of both worlds. Sea trials should confirm an unusual top speed of 20 knots under light displacement. Codecasa believes the yacht could exceed that speed, too. When the Caterpillar engines are at a more modest 12 knots, meanwhile, the yacht should be capable of covering 6,000 nautical miles. That’s more than enough to cross oceans on her own bottom.
The owners, who acquired the project early this year, chose to continue collaborating with M2 Atelier for the interior. The Italian design studio came aboard at Codecasa’s invitation while spec construction was underway. Originally, the studio suggested warm, natural tones and textures to set a soothing mood (below). Photos aren’t yet available, however.
The yacht Kathryn has some of the most in-demand amenities today’s cruisers want. Besides having accommodations for 10 guests, the conveniences include a beach area. The transom incorporates a shell door that folds down, too, forming an extra-large swim and activity platform. Up on the sundeck, meanwhile, a 13-foot-long (4-meter-long) pool can be purely for fun or for getting in daily laps. An elevator allows guests to access this deck, which further has a gym, from their lower-deck staterooms.
Handled by a captain and 12 crew, Kathryn should still see delivery this summer season.
