“Having lots of natural light inside and being able to enjoy the surrounding scenery is an integral part of the design,” Ömer Malaz, Numarine’s chairman, asserts. “We believe that you need to enjoy being inside the yacht as much as being outdoors.” He’s referring to the yacht Minella, hull number one in the Numarine 30XP series. While she’s the latest steel explorer for Numarine, importantly, the 30XP also the yard’s first diesel-electric series. Going hand in hand with it, “we were inspired by a sustainable, Scandinavian design aesthetic which prioritizes simplicity, minimalism, and functionality,” he adds. “We want to offer the feeling of being at home even when you are far out at sea.”

Numarine purposely chose diesel-electric propulsion to promote the series, although twin 560-hp MANs are available, too. Electric motors are quite efficient, for instance, plus in combination with gensets for power, they offer flexible lower-emissions operational modes. (Further for flexible operations, solar panels can go on the hardtop should the owner, or future 30XP buyers, so wish.) The Turkish shipyard believes these will all appeal to long-range cruising customers. Specifically for the yacht Minella, four 1,080-kW diesel gensets link to the twin electric engines. The system allows a best range of around 3,000 nautical miles at 8 knots. Notably, the conventional shaft diesels do, too. Both further permit a cruising speed of 10 knots and top end close to 13 knots. This is a project where the journey is the destination.

Can Yalman designed the yacht Minella with ample alfresco areas and a balcony off the master suite for this same purpose. Dining, relaxing on big settees, and sunning are all possible on the flying bridge, still leaving space for a wetbar. At the waterline, meanwhile, fold-down bulwarks create a 495-square-foot (46-square-meter), partially shaded beach area. It’s tough to discern in the photos here, but the overhang of the deck above is actually slightly more elevated. It makes the beach area aboard the yacht Minella feel a little airier—and creates a cozy perch just three steps up and aft from the main deck.

The Scandi chic décor comes from Yalman and Ofist Design, incorporating stone soles, oak paneling, and sisal rugs to prioritize natural materials in keeping with Numarine’s goals. Nothing distracts from the views of the outdoors, yet the overall looks and layout still warmly welcome guests to sit and linger a while. The saloon aboard the yacht Minella does an especially good job. Full-height windows and sliding doors to starboard and aft let guests better appreciate and experience the surroundings. So does the big seating area. A bar by the aft doors lets guests inside or on the aft deck perch drink to their good fortune in cruising far-flung areas.

Restful nights for a total of 10 people aboard the yacht Minella come courtesy of two king-size VIPs and two double-size VIPs below decks plus the main-deck master suite. The thought of waking up to new anchorages every day will especially excite guests. Their staterooms have healthy hull windows running nearly an entire wall.

Numarine has at least three more 30XP yacht projects under contract, all for existing customers. As much as that delights the shipyard team, Malaz says, “the addition of the hybrid electric propulsion option marks the start of a new era of lower emissions for our yachts. We expect this to be a popular choice.”
