A sailing superyacht that has traversed some of the most challenging waterways in the world just marked a first. The renowned sailing yacht Rosehearty is the first yacht making use of Lusben’s new keel pit.
Lusben, a division of the Azimut-Benetti Group specifically for refit and repair, has the largest such inspection and service basin in the Mediterranean. It’s in Livorno, Italy, and accommodates yachts to 230 feet. Overall, it measures 39 feet (12 meters) long by 11 feet (3.5 meters) wide and 28 feet (8.5 meters) deep. Additionally, it accommodates sailing superyacht with both lifting and canting keels.

A 184-footer (56-meter) from 2006, the yacht Rosehearty has undergone regular service over the years. It’s especially important considering what she has accomplished. For instance, she’s circumnavigated the world. She’s also been to Antarctic waters, and crossed the notorious Northwest Passage. Furthermore, Rosehearty has participated in races. In fact, she was the fastest Perini Navi in the 2015 edition of the St. Barths Bucket. She also won the 2015 Perini Navi Cup in Sardinia.
As for the tasks ahead of Lusben, they include major overhauls of the engines and the keel. Hydraulic systems, the teak deck, and some hull paint are also on the work list.
Once she’s back in her owner’s hands, the yacht Rosehearty can return to offering private guests and charter guests experiences that other sailing yachts can’t. For example, and quite unusual for her LOA, she has seven staterooms. These include the master suite—full beam, naturally—two VIPs, two cabins with a double and single bed each, a bunk-berth cabin, and an on-deck double. Yet another feature guests appreciate is the cockpit converting to an alfresco cinema at night.
Also noteworthy, Rosehearty was the first megayacht with an interior by Christian Liaigre. Crisp whites contrast with rich woods throughout.
Fernando Pilli, Lusben’s general manager, says the new inspection pit was important to create. “This infrastructure is a major step forward for our Livorno shipyard and makes it possible for us to expand our range of services even further,” he explains. He notes that additional Perini Navis will be coming once Rosehearty leaves, too.
