Mobu 33 Yacht Concept: 32 Knots, 2 Decks United by 1 Dramatic Atrium

What exactly is a social performance yacht? If you ask BAZ Yacht Design, it’s a pretty simple. It’s a yacht where onboard life, especially hosting family and friends, dictates the entire design, instead of merely applying to interior areas. This principle guides the studio’s Mobu 33 yacht concept, which has completed preliminary engineering. She combines a 32-knot expected top speed with a creative general arrangement never seen in a superyacht of her size.

The studio dates to 2014, with co-founders Bilge Zaptçıoğlu Atal as an architect and interior designer and Barbaros Atal as a marine engineer. With offices in Turkey and Germany, BAZ Yacht Design specializes in exterior styling and interior design. Among its completed projects is North Star, a 131-foot (40-meter) from Mengi Yay Yachts. The designers executed an interior refit in 2023 in Turkey. They dramatically changed her black, white, yellow, and wavy-lined décor to a more contemporary look with soft blues and greens amid light tones.

BAZ Yacht Design has taken an equally contemporary approach to the Mobu 33 yacht concept. She may look like a large day cruiser, but she’s more than that. As mentioned, the design has a general arrangement unlike any other for something of her size. LOA is 108 feet (33 meters). Instead of a traditional open-plan saloon and dining area, a 12-foot-high (3.8-meter-high) atrium sits at the center of the saloon. The main and lower decks are therefore open to one another. When the aft-deck doors are open, too, the majority of the yacht becomes sweepingly unrestricted. “Wie wanted the social experience to define the yacht from the inside out,” explain the co-founders. “The aft atrium is not simply a dramatic feature; it organizes how people gather, move between levels, and remain connected to the sea.”

More so, “This gave us the opportunity to create a performance yacht with a strong architectural identity and a very natural way of living onboard,” they say. Half levels further contribute to this, linking the saloon and the staterooms for eight people below decks. From the master suite and VIP to the saloon sofas and sunpads out aft, each area still retains its own identity. But, BAZ Yacht Design believes the reinterpretation of space makes them all more naturally connected, following how people actually use their yachts. Generally speaking, daily activity isn’t relegated to one room or deck, no matter what size megayacht someone owns.

As for the performance side of her personality, the Mobu 33 yacht concept should meet expectations, with quadruple Volvo Penta IPS units. According to BAZ Yacht Design’s analysis, she should see a cruising speed of 27 knots. Since the first stages of engineering are already done, this gives the concept design an edge over the majority of design proposals in the industry. Naturally, the designers will tailor the Mobu 33 yacht concept to buyers and with a shipyard partner of their choice.
