Since its founding in 1967 in Sardinia, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has been in high regard. The club is now bringing its brand and overall experience to this side of the Atlantic..
March of next year will see the opening of Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Virgin Gorda. It sits along North Sound on the popular British Virgin Islands destination of Virgin Gorda. The club partnered with a developer, Victor International. Among other properties, Victor International already operates Biras Creek Resort in Virgin Gorda. It further is developing Oil Nut Bay on the island.
The expansion across the Atlantic is the result of Yacht Club Costa Smeralda members requesting it do so. After all, the Caribbean is a popular winter playground. The region further attracts some yachts in the offseason. Among its benefits, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Virgin Gorda sits upon a private peninsula with protected anchorages. It’s easily accessible by helicopter and water. When it fully opens in March of next year, it will have a clubhouse, restaurants, shops, concierge services, and of course slips. To be exact, there will be 38 slips for yachts to 100 meters (328 feet). Because of Victor International’s involvement, the marina, opening next month, will extend visiting yachts benefits at Oil Nut Bay and Biras Creek Resort, too.
It won’t take long for the new club to start hosting high-profile events like the ones in Sardinia. The first Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous takes place March 16 to 20, for instance. Overall, prominent events like the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the Rolex Swan Cup, and one-design fleet races have occurred overseas. In recent years megayacht-oriented races like the Dubois Cup, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, and the Perini Navi Cup have joined the mix, too.
