Sneak Peek Inside the Mangusta GranSport 50: Sunday Superyacht Video

When Mangusta Yachts talks about giving owners and guests half a deck more with the GranSport 50, it may be hard to understand in looking at the design. It might also sound like marketing-speak. But, an extra half deck of usable space for gathering with friends and family or private enjoyment is actually aboard. This first look at the interior reveals how it’s done.

Mangusta collaborated with Alberto Mancini, the well-known yacht designer, for the 164-footer (49.9-meter). Together, they wanted to preserve the flowing, sleek lines characterizing not just the Mangusta GranSport range, but all its models. Some yacht builder and design teams have elevated an alfresco area to provide more space, essentially staggering the decks. But, that doesn’t really add to the square footage.

Announced in March as a megayacht model putting a stylish twist on a raised pilothouse, the Mangusta GranSport 50 does. The wheelhouse is one level up from where it normally sits, therefore emerging out from the upper deck. The half deck that this frees up can become what buyers want it to be, since the superyacht is semi-custom. A family lounge is among the most appealing ideas. It becomes a cozy room with a view for watching movies together, for instance. Or, it’s the spot to plan the day’s voyage and watch as shorelines come closer into view. As Stefano Arlunno, Mangusta’s president of the Americas, explains, the point was to “radically redefine the onboard experience and create spaces to live, and not just to walk through.”

The Mangusta GranSport 50 yacht preserves the captain’s need for clear sightlines, of course, from the wheelhouse. Owners and guests have stronger sightlines, too. They come via glass insets by the saloon and much larger glass panels throughout the three and a half decks, especially the master suite. Furthermore, although it’s not a visibility feature, Mangusta and Mancini maintained a lifestyle amenity that the Mangusta GranSport 38 yacht introduced. Namely, it’s a fixed sunning space nestled into the transom.

More unexpected choices are available as well. For example, a sixth stateroom can replace the skylounge. The entire upper deck can be a private owners’ deck, and a full-beam VIP suite with a balcony can occupy the main deck forward. Although Mangusta hasn’t revealed what hull number one will include, the hints may very well be in the video.
