Usually when builders have a new yacht that’s about to launch, we in the media receive a traditional press release outlining the boat’s main features along with an illustration or photo. Nothing against any of the builders, but in some cases the press releases aren’t terribly exciting; then again, when you receive dozens of them each month, it’s tough not to be jaded.
Maybe that’s why Lazzara Yachts took a different, clever approach in releasing details for its newest model, the LSX 92. It created a Web site devoted to the new megayacht-but not just any Web site, an interactive one with lots of fun things to check out. There are concept sketches for the interior, general-arrangement plans detailing the interior layout (including an alternate arrangement for the main deck), photo and video downloads, and one of my favorites, a scale model of the yacht, which you can rotate 360 degrees with your mouse.
Even just trying to access all of this is fun: When you visit the dedicated site, you’re given the impression you’re in a lobby of some sort, standing outside two doors with a security keypad on the wall to the right. Punch in the code 0092, and you’re ushered into a studio with the various interactive activities showcased on a drawing table, a desk, and other display areas.
Hats off to Lazzara for not only making the learning experience enjoyable, but for embracing the technology of the Web in a way that few companies in this business are doing.
