Bigger, better wakes for more fun, and even more tricks. That’s been the goal for the past three years at MasterCraft in redesigning its XStar. The 23-footer (7.01-meter) is now available as a tender via MasterCraft Boats UK, which handles global superyacht inquiries. As demonstrated above by one of the world’s best wakeboard athletes, the MasterCraft XStar prioritizes wow-inducing performance.
If you’re not familiar with MasterCraft, the American boatbuilder created the XStar 21 years ago. To say it changed the sport is an understatement. Wakeboarding magazine once wrote, “This flagship has pulled so many wakeboarding firsts, we can’t even name them here.” Obviously, the company has updated the design over the years. The latest iteration of the XStar, though, is specially adaptable to superyachts.
For example, the MasterCraft Boats UK team develops single- or multi-point lifting. The XStar offers nearly endless color combinations. Quite important, the team also assesses garage space to ensure the wakeboard will fit. It further works with owners and captains in the design stage of a custom yacht to ensure proper stowage allocation.
The XStar is made for generating thrilling wakes. The hull can feature 4,100 pounds (1,859 kilograms) of ballast in a midship tank, the largest capacity among towboats. Related to this, MasterCraft created a fast-fill system, reportedly permitting topping the ballast tanks in less than three minutes. In addition, the XStar has MasterCraft’s Gen 2 Surf System, resulting in three zones for wicked wakeboarding. All through the development stages, the builder’s engineers consulted professional wakeboarding athletes. In fact, the athlete pictured at top is one of six who put the boat through its paces in North Carolina a few months ago.
Your crew should appreciate the XStar’s handling. MasterCraft developed a rudder especially for the boat, but also offers its DockStar Handling System, for close-quarters maneuvering. This lends peace of mind in busy marinas.
Wakeboarding doesn’t have to be the only function for the XStar. Sixteen people have a little over seven feet (2.21 meters) of usable space in the cockpit. (Full beam is 8’5”, or 2.59 meters.) interior. Crank up the tunes on the Klipsch sound system, and point the bow toward a sunny horizon.
