Turkey-based Vicem Yachts is well known for its woodwork, so I knew that when I stepped aboard the 92 Classic Cruiser at the Yacht & Brokerage Show a few days ago, I expected to see beautiful cabinetry and inlays.
What I didn’t expect to see, however, was just how plentiful those inlays were and how they appeared in places few other builders would ever put them.

Look at the sole in the photo here. This is the crew mess, an area where many builders and owners don’t include the same details as guest areas. Sure, crew these days are treated to more niceties decor-wise than in years prior, but the two-tone wood inlay rimming the mess sole is the same as that flowing throughout the owner’s and guest areas, a pleasant surprise. It additionally surprised me to see the inlay in the two crew cabins and their shared head. Though the steps leading down to the crew area are steep–better to be traversed going backwards–the overall execution of their space is well done.
The execution throughout the rest of the megayacht impressed me, too. Doors to staterooms are solid mahogany, not cored, as is the lid to the lift-up vanity top in the master stateroom. Compass rose inlays adorn soles in the foyer outside of the three guest staterooms as well as inside two of them, the queen and the VIP. The third stateroom, by the way, benefits from tremendous headroom–what I’d estimate to be seven to seven and a half feet–because you take one step down to stand between the twin beds.
One step separates the saloon and bar area from the dining area and galley up on the main deck, too. At first it struck me as being odd not to have a flush-deck arrangement like other 90- to 100-footers, but the arrangement here makes each space more intimate.
If it’s ample you want, however, the 92 can still deliver. The walk-around side decks, which are partly shaded by the deckhouse overhangs, are comfortable to traverse, and the stainless steel handrails feel generous in hand, with no decipherable weld marks. (Vicem does its own metal work, too.)
With a reported top speed of 18 knots and a cruise speed of 13 knots, thanks to twin 900-hp MANs, the Vicem 92 embraces her “Classic Cruiser” model name.
Here’s more of the 92.
