There’s something about acres of teak on the deck of a megayacht that is incredibly appealing. At the same time, however, teak is becoming rare and quite expensive. Even though countries have unveiled teak-plantation investment strategies, some of these programs are based on unlikely growth and yield projections, and worse, some have reportedly involved questionable fund management policies. Logging in some world regions has exceeded what the forests can regenerate, further adding to the problems.
Some “faux teak” materials have emerged in recent years, but many have been rejected in the superyacht industry because they don’t look luxe enough. That is, except for Esthec.
