When Jongert was acquired last summer, the new management team promised to post information about new projects soon thereafter. There’s finally word about not one, but three new designs: two sailing yachts, in keeping with Jongert’s history of focusing on those craft, plus a new motoryacht.
The four-deck 4900MY, seen here, is that new motoryacht. As the name suggests, the LOA is 49 meters, or about 161 feet. Designed by Azure Naval Architects, with styling by Guido de Groot Design, she’ll feature a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. All exterior decks will be laid with teak, including the partial walk-around main deck. (The owner’s cabin is full beam forward.) World cruising is the envisioned purpose, so the 4900MY emphasizes a displacement design rather than speed. She’s anticipated to cruise at 13 knots and top out at 15.4 knots, thanks to twin 1,450-hp MTUs.
The extended swim platform should serve as a good jumping off point for guests boarding watertoys as well as disembarking from the tenders. Guests arriving by tender can also enter the megayacht along the starboard side, directly into the main deck lobby. From there, they can head aft to the formal dining room and saloon, which are separate from one another, or up the stairs to the upper-deck lounge, which includes a bar.
Guido de Groot is also the interior designer, and he seems to be striving for a balance between broad appeal and specialized touches. For example, the main-deck layout just described is essentially the same of every yacht in this size range. But the fact that there’s a good-size dedicated space on the lower deck for guest luggage is a nice touch. Also nice is the fact that it’s accessible via both the central guest lobby and the crew mess forward. Even better, it should be able to hold a clotheshorse’s bags, as it’s the same length as each of the four guest staterooms down here.
The décor is open to owner’s choice, though a few different minimalist looks are posted on Jongert’s Web site as starting points. In fact, included in the mix are the same saloon and dining area designs that de Groot did for Espresso, a recent launch by Horizon Yachts.
The February edition of the Megayacht News newsletter will have in-depth details about the two new Jongert sailing yachts, the 5200M and the 4000M.
