You have to hand it to the new breed of megayacht owners: These guys don’t waste time when it comes to ensuring they’ll have fun onboard. Such is the case with the owner of this much-talked-about 394-footer. Robert Frank of The Wall Street Journal takes us inside Andrey Melnichenko’s superyacht A, which Melnichenko and his designer, the famed Philippe Starck, outfitted to indulge the senses.
Melnichenko, the Russian-born founder of fertilizer producer EuroChem Group, took delivery of the massive megayacht from Blohm + Voss in 2008. While plenty of people have seen her cruising, no one other than the inner circle of Melnichenko has been inside. Until now.
Throughout the interior spaces, there are more mirrors than you can shake a stick at, along with a plethora of glass. Similarly, you get to see abundant use of silver leaf for lining walls, and even stingray hide adorning the walls of a guest stateroom. But for the ultimate in (ahem) sensory experiences, there’s a “nookie room.” (Perhaps that explains fingerprint-only access to some owner-only areas.)
Enjoy the tour of Melnichenko’s superyacht A.
