Fuel prices be damned: If you want to feel the wind in your hair, the newest high-performance member of Pershing’s flagship line will do the trick. Hull #9 in the Pershing 115 series launched last week, under the watchful eye of the owner’s representative and, of course, the team at the shipyard.
Like the previous deliveries in the series, the new 115 features naval architecture by Fulvio De Simoni, though with further contributions by AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology) and the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup team, both being design firms owned by Pershing’s parent company, the Ferretti Group.
On her initial sea trial, the 115 reportedly achieved 38 knots under the power of her twin 3,700-hp MTU diesels, coupled to KaMeWa Rolls Royce waterjets. However, because the owner opted for a 5,000-hp Vericor gas turbine, also coupled to a waterjet, speeds can also reportedly reach 52 knots. (Vericor supplies the same model to megayacht builders like Palmer Johnson, ISA, and Oceanfast and further works with the navies of the United States, Sweden, Finland and Korea.)
Besides the ability to jump from island to island far faster than other comparably sized yachts, the four-stateroom 115 accommodates nine in the owner’s party. They have a 24-square-meter (258-square-foot) cockpit to enjoy for alfresco meals and/or cocktails. Since Pershing invites owners to customize the decor of their yachts, the cockpit also includes a 32-inch television that folds down from the overhead. In fact, the owner requested a good deal of entertainment-oriented equipment, ranging from a centralized Kaleidoscape movie and music system to touchscreen controls throughout the yacht to operate it. The same touchscreens coordinate the drapes, air conditioning, and even the CCTV system, which can further pull up charts showing the yacht’s latest position.
A five-person crew, accommodated in three cabins, tends to the owner’s and guests’ needs.
